Sunrise on a New Year

Happy 2016! NB: This is a photo heavy post.

Since we’d had a quieter night in the night before, I’d somehow managed to convince hubby to take me out early this morning to watch the first sunrise of the year. Seeing as we live in South London, finding a good east facing hill not more than 30 minutes drive away almost proved too much! But Reigate Hill came to the rescue. Now all we had to do was to get a good 5hrs sleep and wake up fresh at 6:15am! Urgh…

Well we did it! Armed with thermals and walking boots, we parked up and manoeuvred our way in the dark through a short wooded walk, along a bridge across the M25 and through a load of mud to find ourselves in the open. It took a bit more trekking up and down and through a lot more mud to find a good spot, but we made it in time before the sun crested over the horizon.

I’m so glad we managed to drag ourselves out of bed as it was a brilliant way to start the year. I’m looking forward to many more wonderful days this year and I wish you many wonderful days too.

p.s. if you love sunrises/sunsets, then check out Liz’s collection over at The Blog of Happy Things.

Oh, I love this! What a brilliant idea and you must have felt good for accomplishing it. This definitely makes me want to get back out in nature again.

Thanks Mandy! The first trek out was definitely a bit of an effort, but it was well worth it in the end! I’m looking forward to the weather clearing up so we can head out for more walks soon :)
